You Design Beautiful Spaces (And So Does Your Competition)

I see this line on so many architects’ and designers’ websites, and every time I think, “no sh*t.” If I had a dollar for each time I read it, I could retire early.
As if a designer's webpage would boast that they design dark, dingy, stinky caves that no one wants to be in.
But what really bothers me isn’t the cliché. It’s the self-focus. That statement is all about you as the designer, not the person you’re designing for.
You explains what you do, not what you could do for your clients.
Real magic happens when you shift the spotlight from yourself to your client.
What if instead the focus were on your client:
Turning dreams into spaces you can live in
Shaping spaces around how you live
Thoughtful design, tailored to you
Where design meets your everyday life
Designed for the way you want to live
These phrases don’t just describe what you do. They express how you transform someone’s life. That’s the real enchantment your words should cast.
Conjure your success
So how do you make your content "client-facing?"
Review your website, newsletters, and social posts, scanning for the word "I" or "we". Phrases like "I believe that" and "We think" pull the focus back to you.
The secret is: No one cares what you think or believe.
Your readers want to know how your thoughts and beliefs help them. As they read your text, they're wondering "What's in it for me?" (WIIFM)
Rewrite your copy based on the results and emotions your clients crave. That’s your storytelling magic.
Reveal the magician's secret
To come up with different options for "We Design Beautiful Spaces", I used Perplexity (similar to ChatGPT) with the prompt:
“Give me options for ‘We design beautiful spaces’ that are rewritten for what the client wants.”
You see some of the results above.
Then I use my magic to blend the results to align with the voice, tone, and brand of my specific client.
Enchant with the sorcerer's spell
When you write about design, you’re not just describing spaces. You’re shaping possibility.
The most powerful spell you can cast is a story where your client sees themselves inside their dream space.
That’s when your words, like your designs, transform the ordinary into something unforgettable.
